Winters Barns Wedding Photography
Winter weddings don’t always give you frost-covered fields or golden sunsets. Sometimes, they give you grey skies, cold rain, and a day that stays firmly indoors. And honestly? That’s where the real stories tend to unfold. This wedding at the fabulous Winters Barns near Canterbury in Kent was exactly that. No stepping outside for portraits. No dramatic landscapes. Just people, connection, moments, and everyone having a fabulous time.
There’s sometimes a temptation from couples to try and recreate what a day “should” look like. To chase light and moments that are not there or force moments that don’t fit. This couple did none of that, they simply had a great time, being themselves, with their fiends and family around them creating a wonderful atmosphere.
Winters Barns is located just outside Canterbury, set in the beautiful Kent countryside. Everything you need is onsite, a salon for the bridal party to spend the morning in, a dressing room of the groomsmen, indoor and outdoor ceremony spots and fabulous food. It is one of my favourite venues in Kent.
My Favourite Photo
This is one of my favourite moments from the whole of the 2025 season. We have the father of the bride who just walked his daughter proudly up the aisle shaking hands with the Groom. There are a few versions of the photo, there is a colour one in the gallery below but personally I prefer the moment stripped back to black and white. No distraction by colour, simply the moment.
For me the key to photographing a wedding day is to blend in enough that people forget you’re there. No calling attention, no pulling people away from conversations and no breaking the rhythm of the day. Instead, it’s about watching, anticipating, and quietly waiting so those intimate moments can unfold naturally—completely uninterrupted. Below I have two more of my favourite candid moments from the day.
Another of my favourite moments, the mother of the groom seeing her son in his suit for the first time. Nothing posed just a real moment, real connection. The buffet and beers the groomsmen had in the morning still there in the background hoping to tell the story of day.
Here we have the brides sister hugging the groom after the ceremony, the moment is full of emotion. In one frame we have the bride, groom, son and the brides sister, no one noticing the camera, just a beautiful moment.
