Great Conservatory Wedding at Syon Park
Photographing a wedding at Syon Park is an absolute pleasure as the venue is simply stunning. The park lies on the banks of the River Thames, in London, and has been an important location since before the Roman period. Henry VIII and many of his wives, Catherine of Aragon, Jane Seymour and Anne Boleyn, as well as many others like, Lady Jane Grey and Oliver Cromwell have all visited the park in its many forms throughout its history.
This wedding took place at the Great Conservatory which was built in 1830. You may recognise it from numerous films and TV shows, including Bridgerton where it was used as the location for Lady Danbury's Ball.
The bride and groom wanted to spend as much time after the ceremony with their friends and family enjoying themselves so they had their couple photos taken before the wedding ceremony. The couple got ready together at the on-site, Hilton Hotel, and then walked over to the Great Conservatory for their photos before their guests arrived.
Favourite Wedding Photo
I am largely a documentary wedding photographer, simply meaning most of my work is not posed. That's doesn't mean that I do not take any posed photos as most couples would like a few relaxed ones. This couple had their bride and groom photos before the ceremony. We spent about 15 minutes walking around the venue using three or four different locations to take some relaxed photos of them together before the guests arrived. This is one of my favourites. The location was absolutely beautiful and you can see the spot outside where they would go onto get married in later in the day.
Intimate Moments
Most of my work is candid and unposed, capturing the real emotion of the day. This is one of my favourite photos from the day. Nan giving the groom a massive cuddle. You can see and feel the happiness that she has for him in this moment. These candid moments are what I love about weddings, real, pure, happy emotion.
Be Yourself
One of the best bits of advice I can give a couple is to simply be themselves and enjoy their day. Try not to worry about the photos, the food, the music, they have paid people to do that for them. I really like this photo because this is exactly what you see, the bride simply having fun and being herself as the couple walked across the venue grounds.
