Battersea Art Centre Wedding Photography
Battersea Arts Centre is a beautiful venue and perfect for a wedding. The building has a long, interesting history. Opening in 1893 as a town hall it later became Battersea Art Centre in 1974 after a battle to save parts of the building from demolition by the local council. Films, TV shows and music videos have all been shot here over the years. Tragically parts of the building, including the Grand Hall, were destroyed by a fire in 2016. In 2018 this was beautifully rebuilt.
Before the wedding, at the Arts Centre, the couple had a private ceremony at Lambeth Town Hall with one friend and I acted as the other witness for them. They then headed for a family brunch at The Laundry in Brixton before heading home to get 'wedding ready.' The couple then had their wedding service, wedding breakfast and reception in the Grand Hall at Battersea Arts Centre. They kept the whole day very relaxed, exactly how they wanted it, with no first dance but some fabulous wedding games.

One of the games the couple had planned for their wedding day was a vote on what their surname would be. The results were then announced by the celebrant at the end of the ceremony. They listed a number of options, his surname, her surname, a jumble of both surnames and two hyphenated versions. They would then change their legally married name they had listed that morning at the registry office via deed poll the next day. This is the exact moment the couple found out what their new married surname would be.
More Wedding Fun
After the ceremony, during the drinks reception the couple held a murder mystery. The bride walked the hall with a veil over her face as if she was a ghost and the guests were tasked with working out who the murderer was before they all sat down for the wedding breakfast!
